A veteran journalist´s journey into the world of sports

Barcelona – One of the most reliable sources of information in the World Junior Championships Barcelona 2012 is Dave Martin, a veteran athletics journalist.

Dave´s interest in sports started at a young age of 14 in Great Britain, where he became the athletics correspondent for a local paper.

He drafted for the British Army in 1966 and continued his works in athletics while serving the military force.

In 1989, he decided to retire from the service and went on to do freelance work for various news companies including the Athletics Weekly magazine. The magazine is known to be the world’s only devoted weekly track and field magazine with all the news, reports and results from around the world.

Dave has also worked for UK News as its International Athletics Correspondent. His work has brought Dave to all the continents covering athletic events.

“Athletics has grown to be more professional now, in terms of the competition and organization,” Dave said.

At present, Martin is working for the International Association of Athletics Federations doing the daily wrap-ups of the events of the Championship here in Barcelona.

“I´m glad to be back here in Barcelona,” Martin said.

Martin remembers fondly the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. “It´s the best Olympics ever. Superbly organized.”

The 2012 London Olympics will be his sixth and he will also be working the IAAF.

Dave recently celebrated his birthday. “Retirement is out of the question right now,” he said.

“I´m enjoying all these things right now,” he added.
