Afternoon delight.

Skyrockets in flight!

Cagayan de Oro – It’s really funny how things function in the Philippines especially the holidays. We are on the third week of classes,, and so far in the university where I am teaching right now, today is already the third non-working no-class holiday. What could have been my first day in class, the President of the Philippines declared it a holiday. Yesterday was the 150th birth anniversary of Philippine national hero, José Rizal.

I arrived in Manila ona very rainy Saturday afternoon. My bestfriend and host, Jude, welcomed me with a wonderful afternoon rainy delight. Afternoon delight is quite simply all about daytime love making, the naughty type. It was also the name of a song sung in the 70s by a group called the starland vocal band. Theses words date back to around 130BC in Ancient Egypt, when people along the Nile respectively went out in the afternoon to the banks of the river  and made love to their partners. This phrase was taken from Egyptian words aftaron – before night  and delita – sex.

Now who says only a national hero deserves a great holiday? If I can’t have a holiday, an afternoon delight would at least be a heroic one.

Gonna find my baby, gonna hold her tight
Gonna grab some Afternoon Delight
My motto’s always been “When it’s right, it’s right.”
Why wait until the middle of a cold, dark night?

When everythings a little clearer in the light of day?
And we know the night is always gonna be here anyway?

Thinkin ’bout you’s working up my appetite
Lookin’ forward to a little Afternoon Delight
Rubbin’ sticks and stones together makes the sparks ignite
And the thought of rubbin’ you is getting so exciting

Skyrockets in flight!
Afternoon Delight!
Afternoon Delight!
Afternoon Delight!

Started out this morning feeling so polite,
I always thought a fish could not be caught that didn’t bite.
But you got some bait a-waiting and I think I might
Like nibblin’ a little Afternoon Delight

Skyrockets in flight!
Afternoon Delight!
Afternoon Delight!
Afternoon Delight!

Be waiting for me, baby, when I come around.
We can make a lot of loving ‘fore the sun goes down

Thinkin’ of you’s workin’ up a’ appetite
Lookin’ forward to a little afternoon delight
Rubbin’ sticks and stones together makes the sparks ignite
And the thought of rubbin’ you is getting so exciting

Skyrockets in flight!
Afternoon Delight!
Afternoon Delight!

Afternoon Delight!

(a madrigal fugue)

Afternoon Delight!
