Miguel Cervantes overlooking Don Quixote and Sancho Panza

Barcelona – One of the major tourist destinations in Madrid is Plaza España. It is the largest public square in Spain. In the middle of the square, one will find five statues. Lording over the four statues is Miguel Cervantes de Saavedra, the most famous Spanish novelist, poet and playwright. Directly below Cervantes are the principal characters of his novel, Don Quixote de la Mancha and his sidekick, Sancho Panza. To Cervantes’ sides are the women of his novel, the peasant woman, Aldonza Alonzo (left), and the beautiful Dulcinea del Toboso (right).
