i love enya…

by Evans Yonson

Barcelona – In the summer of 1989, fresh from my university graduation, I along with my bestfriends Jude and Dominic went to Camiguin Island. The two-hour bus ride to the Balingoan wharf from Cagayan de Oro took us like forever. We talked endlessly about what to do and where to go after this summer vacation. Playing on the background on this ride was Enya’s Orinoco Flow. I couldn’t decipher the lyrics then except for the phrase, “… sail away, sail away.” Jude, the musically-inclined that he is, had already memorized the song after hearing it only twice. This song was endlessly played over the FM radio stations all over the place. After walking the shores of the Paradise Island (aka Camiguin Island), we came back to Cagayan de Oro fresh and ready to start a new life. Thanks mostly to the air, ambiance, the company of bestfriends, and of course, the sound of Enya.

Orinoco Flow

Let me sail, let me sail, let the orinoco flow,
Let me reach, let me beach, on the shores of Tripoli.
Let me sail, let me sail, let me crash upon your shore,
Let me reach, let me beach, far beyond the Yellow sea.

(Bridge)

Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away
Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away
Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away
Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away

From Bissau, to Palau – in the shade of Avalon,
From Fiji, to Tiree and the Isles of Ebony,
From Peru, to Cebu, feel the power of Babylon,
From Bali, to Cali – far beneath the Coral sea.

(Bridge)

Turn it up, turn it up, turn it up, bye, adieu. ohh…
Turn it up, turn it up, turn it up, bye, adieu. ohh…
Turn it up, turn it up, turn it up, bye, adieu. ohh… ahh…

Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away
Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away
Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away
Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away

From the North to the South, Ebudae into Khartoum,
From the deep sea of clouds to the island of the moon,
Carry me on the waves to the land I’ve never been,
Carry me on the waves to the lands I’ve never seen.

We can sail, we can sail…With The Orinoco Flow
We can sail, we can sail
Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away
We can steer, we can near, with Rob Dickins at the wheel,
We can sigh, say goodbye Ross and his dependancy,
We can sail, we can sail…
Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away

We can reach, We can beach, on the shores of Tripoli.
We can sail, we can sail
Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away

From Bali to Cali – far beneath the Coral sea.
We can sail, we can sail
Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away

From Bissau to Palau – in the shade of Avalon,
We can sail, we can sail…
Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away

We can reach, We can beach far beyond the Yellow sea.
We can sail, we can sail…
Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away

From Peru to Cebu feel the power of Babylon,
We can sail, we can sail…
Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away
We can sail, we can sail…
Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away

Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away
Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away
Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away
Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away
Ahhha….Ahhha….Ahhha…Ahhha….
